XP freezing up, cannot use Excel due to no control Post a Reply
From: David on 04/24/2003
I got XP at home & work at the same time. I loaded Office 2000 to both & have had nothing but problems with both. My main concern is my home computer. There are 3 things that happen: 1) the computer freezes up every few minutes. I hit control-alt-delete & the task manager comes up. I do not have to End Task, but simply close the task manager box & the computer unfreezes; 2) for no apparent reason the mouse pointer will change to an odd looking symbol resembling 4 bold triangles pointing in all directions, or 2 triangles pointing up or down-what is that?; 3)Excel will not work at all-the mouse pointer makes that crazy triangle symbol and just highlights all the cells. I have spent hours on the phone with HP & Microsoft Tech support to no avail. Per HP, I have done 2 full recoveries, uninstalled & reinstalled the mouse, and other things I cant even explain. Any help would be very appreciated.

for windows 2000 try going to your control panel, go to your mouse icon, in mouse properties look at hardware, select the mouse driver you are working with, clic on the properties, go to the advanced setting sheet and disable wheel detection.
