I seen other entries with the same problem but cannot find a solution. Any help is appreciated.

I have a gateway Performance 500 shipped with 128 ram. The specs state the maximum system ram is 384. When I added an additional 128 ram I received the following error message at startup...

While initializing device vcache
Windows protection error

I had same problem. Removing the RAM I added corrected the problem.

You may have bad RAM, ask gateway if it was OK to add 128 or if you should have added 256 or 512. also is there a BIOS setting or motherboard jumper needed.
get the RAM tested.

We already know the operating system. Windows 95/98/ME are all the same and are the only operating systems that would give you this error.

However, we need to get the numbers portion or a more detailed post of your problem.

Thanks.
