I have a HP Pentium II, I believe. I had additional memory added to my computer. Now, the computer does not want to run most of my programs even though my computer fits the requirements. Some may install but not run. Others will not install. The few that install and run, shuts down and freezes my computer. What should I do.

First of all, make sure that the RAM you put in is the correct RAM for your computer, that it is seated properly, and that it is loading properly on startup. If problems occurred since you installed the RAM and have installed or changed nothing else, then this is likely the problem. One way to test this is to remove the new memory and load the computer with the old memory only and see if the problem is resolved.

Try it with the old memory only, if it works then return the RAM for a refund and buy it elsewhere. If you don't have the old memory, try reducing what you have, remove as much as you can as a test to figure out which memory stick is the bad one, or run a floppy based RAM test, search the net for a free one.
