Scan Disc keeps restarting Post a Reply
From: Kathy on 02/02/2003
I have an HP Pavilion, Windows ME OS. When I run Scan Disc, it gets part way through, then restarts-does this 2 or 3 times then finally completes. I have recently done a full recovery, which has reduced the # of restarts. Any suggestions (other than switching to another OS!)?

Disable the screen saver.

i agree with starting in safe mode to do the scan. Bear in mind though that it will take a lot longer to complete the scan - or is that defrag that takes a lot longer!

This behaviour is 'by design'!!

Anyway if you need more information go to www.microsoft.com and type in KB222469 in the search box (top left of screen)

if your running programs in your system tray..
(icons near the clock)
these can prevent scandisk or defrag from completing.
one recent program I have found the many users have in this area
is call "callwave" "internet answering machine"

try right-clicking any icons in your system tray and then close/exit those programs..

then try your scandisk..

if this fails.. boot into safe mode and then try again.
good luck.

Yes, even with all other programs closed, it keeps restarting.

Have you closed all other programs?

Any drive activity will cause the scan disk to restart...
