EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module MF Post a Reply
From: Fraser on 01/25/2003
When I try to run Internet Explorer 6 (computer uses Windows 98SE) I get an error message saying, "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If problem persists, contact the program vendor."
The details are:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module MFC42.DLL at 016f:5f45bf8a.

If I click OK and a window comes up as long as I do not click ok on this window, IE6 will load and appear to function. To close I must click on the OK in this window.

I have search MS Knowledge base, with negative results.

If anyone could help?

All you need to do to fix this problem in ANY CASE is to delete the regkeys

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

They contain toolbar addins for internet explorer which often cause IE to produce error messages.

I have fixed more than 10 cases of this error by deleting these reg keys.

Thank you. I downloaded the IEradicator program, reinstalled IE and WA-LA. Problem Fixed! Thanks for the feedback.

I was about to buy a MAC!

Well I finally fixed it! download a file called IE Radicator. There were two files 2001 and V6 I used 2001. It complete removes IE. First make sure you have the IE6setup file on your computer. Run Radicator, it removes your IE completely. Then run IE6setup and it makes a fresh install and the error is gone. It worked for me and I was about to give up.

Good luck.

Just search IERadicator, you find it!

I have experienced the same problem. I have reinstalled the full windows 98SE package, run Norton systemworks to clean up registry problems, updated all windows components including an upgrade of explorer to V6 from V5.5 from the microsoft website, all to no avail.

I am able to access the internet as long as I don't respond "OK" to the "An error has occurred in Internet Explorer" message.

I do have an Iomega CD-Burner running Direct CD2.5 software which has been associated with a similar error message, but I uninstalled it to no avail. I also attempted to upgrade it to 2.5d from the www.roxio.com website, but it deemed that the software was already up to date.

Every time I open Internet explorer I get the page fault message.

I'm running out of options. Any ideas?
