Kernel32.dll Fault when starting IE4 or Netscape C Post a Reply
From: Milton on 06/05/1999
I'm getting a "illegal operation" fault while trying to power up either one of my browsers... Communicator or Explorer. "Caused an exception at 6d007eH in module kernel32.dll at 014f:bff9a3c0" is what it says. I didn't have any trouble until downloading a local "professionally built" software program which didn't seem to work properly in my system... so of course, I backed out of it with the uninstall disk. :-( When I try to power up my Windows Exchange Inbox on my Intranet at work I also get a "illegal operation" calling for a "urlmon.dll". I read some of your "fixes" on the Knowledgebase which seem to indicate a program fault that directs my browsers where to get these .dll files. So is it as simple as re-installing my browsers or is the problem bigger than that? I've searched for the files that appear to be missing, but they are there... right where they should be. How can I direct these programs to look for these files on the proper place? I fear my problem is a little bigger that I first anticipated. So I'm on my computer at home trying to search the internet for the solution... Can you help?

:im having the same illegal function and when i click on details it says problem with kernel32.dll. this occurs usually first when using ie, but then it ends up doing it with everything i do and my explorer and winfile and just about everything u could imagine i dont know what to do, im trying to maybe get a new kernel32.dll file itself but i cant come across it. any help would be great.]

: I agree with the guy below me =). Kernel32.dll crash, well if I were you id deff reinstall IE4 first (or go to IE5 it seems more stable and Microsoft fixed bunch of bugs and backdoors now!) .. or if you on IE5 reinstall IE5 then =). Still no good, look for an app that WIN98 has that fixes DLL, I am on NT Server atm so I do not remmember the name.. ask around. Good luck mate.

: : You are right, the first thing to try would be to re-install those programs giving you the problems. Hope that they install any DLL's (or even the main program, registry entries and such) that were "trashed" when you installed that new program.

: : You should run a FULL virus check NOW, because maybe it's some silly virus doing this to you. Never know what you will get when you pick up programs off the net.
