 Win2k - BSOD - Stop:0x0000001E..KMODE_EXCEPTIO Post a Reply
From: Bruce on 08/03/2001
Ok heres the full code I get:
Stop: 0x0000001E (0xC000000s, 0xA004E5CB, 0x00000000,0x6BF4DF88)
KMODE_Exception_NOT_Handled
Address A004E5C8 base at A0000000, DateStamp 3aa01b4 - win32k.sys

What the heck is this? I haven't been able to get a straight answer from Microsoft regarding this error, and the closest thing to a fix seems to be something they want you to pay a tech support line before they give it to you. Also, in MS knowledge base, the errors close to this are all referencing NT4, I have Win2k Pro!

This BSOD comes up when I'm using realplayer, quicktime (got a kmixer.sys error using quicktime also), bryce and sometimes certain web sites. I have a home built computer; evga geoforce2 mx 400 video card, SB Awe64 sound card (legacy), 256 megs sdram, FIC VA-501A mb, Adaptec scsi aha 2940UW card, AMD 550 mhz cpu and all of the latest drivers and system updates (Winnt 2000 sp2, DX8, etc.).

Does anyone have a clue as to whats going on here???

HAHA, same problem 6 years later...
Anyone positive on the bad RAM thing?

Intel Pentium 4 (2 CPUs)
2GB RAM
Page File: 347MB used, 5644MB available
DirectX 9.0c
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT
Display Memory: 256.0 MB

Medieval 2 used to run good.
Recently added two new GB of RAM.
Played Empires for awhile fine, then reinstalled Medieval.
Can play large battles with the graphics higher than before.

Battles work but Grand Campaign crashes after viewing the map for a 5-10 seconds.

No lag or anything, I once played through one entire turn.
Blue screen described here displays with win32k.sys half of the time.
The other half, crash to desktop for "unknown" reason.

Used to work fine before the RAM...

I'm sorry to dissappoint you guys, but I have ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 7500 and all sort of errors including the one you mentioned. it is always up to driver for graphic card. They are posting updates on weekly basis, that's how many problems are encountered, but nothing helps. Any high graphic application I run (TV, games, video file player or even DVD) are causing me BOSDs. Somebody told me that those higher end graphic cards are very RAM hungry and that 256MB DDR is not enough. It might be truth, but not too sure.

One thing I am sure, it is the graphic card driver that causes all those problems or maybe even graphic card itself. I was angry with ATI, thinking that I should buy GEForce, now I see that they are all the same crap. The more you pay, the more troubles you get.

Cheers

Return that video card and get a different brand. If turning down acceleration doesn't help, take it back quick. Lots of complaints about this card do a search.
If you don't need a kick ass card then don't get one you are wasting dollars and time with problems.
AMD is fine, had them for years always and they work fine.

Same situation here. I am running an AMD 700Mhz with anywhere from 256 to 512MB of 133 SDRAM...All my problems of this type seemed to have started when I installed my Nvidia Ti200 128MB AGP CaRD. I have removed Direct X and tried Version 7, 8 and 8.1 as well as trying several different Nvidia drivers for this card. I think the combination of using an AMD chip with an Nvidia 3D Card causes these type of problems. No fix found yet....Next time I bild a PC it will be with Pentium 3 or 4 and a Radeon Video Card...

:
: : I am assuming you are talking about the geforce2 mx400 video board chipset? I am getting the same stop error on a windows 2000 pro machine using a leadtek geforce2 mx 400. The only thing i have seen from microsoft support web site is that i "supposedly" have a virus. I dont have a vius. Driver updates dont work. Bios update didnt work. I am also getting a stop error 0x00000051 Registry error. Do you think this could be compliments of the mx400? I am assuming it is.
: : Could anyone give me more documents that this mx400 is most likely the cause to this error. If so ill take it out and burn it.

: : Thanks in advance...

: I have a GeForce2 GTS on Windows 2000, and get the same exact error at the original poster. I ALWAYS get it within 20 minutes of trying to work on my application in Microsoft's own Visual Basic. It's definately not a virus..

If you guys are running AMD processors, check into your processor and the problems that occur when running DDR memory. This problem is out there, but no one has officially noted anything on it.
I'm looking into the same problem on a win2ksp2 machine with an elsa gladiac 32mb/abit mobo with 256MB SDRAM. I get my problem on shutdown. Nothing but virus stuff out there or needs an update on video drivers. I'm thinking about reverting to a lower DirectX. This happened after i finished doing all the complete updates from the windows update site. It may be a problem with a hotfix or something they decided to "tweak."
I'm going to check into directx and any critical updates/patches that were installed.

: : : HiHo...

: : ive the same Prob. But my w2K system is not connected on Internet. When my system rip a DVD an the Processor usage is abaout 5 min on 100% the problem comes by me.

: : Think its not a bug its a feture from microsaft ;)

: actually it's neither, it's the fucking mx400 w/ the new detxp's. my winxp system got a lot more stable when i upgraded to the det 2311's but after a while it started going downhill too, to the point where i can't play any games without a nv4_disp infinite loop or a stop error like the one the guy says he's having at the top of the thread. i've entertained many people's claims that they had finally solved the nv4 problems but NONE of them that i've found works 100%, and all of them are about as effective as the driver updates.. that is, they improve short-term stability but eventually get back to piss-poor, sometimes crashing on a blank desktop with no applications running! then the cycle starts over... i find some other "fix" and it works for a little bit and shits out just like it's predecessor. i'm really fucking pissed that i've had to deal with NEVER having a completely stable system due to one component or another having problems such as this. why should the consumer suffer just because the #1 video chip manufacturer does a half-assed job on something?!? fucking nvidia and fucking inno3d can blow me, i've half a mind to buy a radeon 8500 just to spite them, as soon as i can afford to replace this mx400 fucking piece of shit. bottom line is it works good IF it works, but because of the propensity of the conditions of said "IF", i don't recommend it.
