Nvidia freezes during startup splash screen Post a Reply
From: Rick on 08/18/2002
I recently had to replace the memory in my pc and reload WinMe. I have the Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 video card installed on a AMD K7S5A motherboard. Everything works fine with the Standard PCI GRaphics Adapter (VGA)loaded. I have all the latest drivers downloaded. As soon as I install the Nvidia Detonator drivers (30.82) and the system reboots, it locks up when the startup splash screen appears. Please advise. Thanks.

There is no solution. The combination is between a KT133 chipset with Thunderbird (Athlon) processor (1-1.3 gig range) and the infamous GeForce 400 series video cards.

There is a website that has addressed this issue and if you follow the instructions and read the article, you might find yourself with less blue screens or even fix the problem:

I personally, have never experienced the problem and really have not tested a solution yet. However, you might find this solution successfull.

Good Luck.

I have downloaded versions 28.32, 23.11, and 12.41. All had the same result.

These GeForce 400 cards are a real pain when it comes to drivers and compatibility with Win9X operating systems.

There are a long list of other individuals that have simlar problems. You might find someone on the Internet with a modified driver.

Otherwise, Ray has great advice. Try numerous drivers for compatibility. You may even try Win 95 drivers in Win 98 or Win ME. Manually install the driver (do not allow the normal install from a CD). Pick the file you want to use for the driver and install it over the one you current have (use the device manager).

Hope this helps. PLEASE post back if you find a driver that works. I would LOVE to obtain a copy for everyone that has this issue on the board. You would be saving a lot of headaches!!!

Nvidia has some real good support and very good drivers in my experience, remove that driver for now and contact them about this problem. It may be a very new driver for that card.
Any chance you can get a previous driver version and try that? I have found older stuff works better sometimes.
