Computer freeze when nobody work on it Post a Reply
From: Jean Yves on 01/21/2002
My new PC Athlon 1200 MHz - 256 Mo - Win98 SE freeze but only when nobody work.
When I'm working on it, or I'm playing all is OK during
4 hours or much.
But when the pc don't work it freeze after a random
time 1 minute or 1 hour.
I don't understand this.
Can you give me some ideas.
I have also:
video card : Matrox G400
Sound card : Muse XL
Ethernet Card : Not connected
PCTV card (Pinnacle)
A scaner on port USB
An SCSI card

Thank you

Screen Saver
Do not use those fancy screen savers, windows can't handle it.
and get rid of any programs that run in the background, windows can't handle it.
Leave windows as simple as you can, no add ons, it can't handle it.

I have Windows Me on.. but still have the same problem.. just the timing is slightly different: after about 2 minutes of no use, it freezes. Otherwise all normal.. Any ideas?

: Hi there,

: The reason for this is not going to sound right to you, but give it a try and you will see. Windows 98 is really not meant to use that many resources and speed. All you need to do is load WIndows 2000 or even ME and you will see there will be no freezing.

: This is only a last resort
