Fatal Exception OE:0197:BFF77328 Post a Reply
From: Tim on 02/16/2002
I keep getting an intermittant Fatal Exception OE:0197:BFF77328 or OE:0197:BFF775B4 error on startup using windows ME. If I turn the computer off and restart it, it seems to work fine. This doesn't happen with any recognizable pattern.
Can anyone help me? What does OE mean, or 0197?
Thanks

I've got a Windows ME and Windows 98 too. And have recently installed the latest Norton Antivirus Program. Evry time I try to open the computer the screen gets all blue with the message above. Sometimes I try more than 5 times to get connected to the internet. And sometimes it arrises when I'm in the middle of writing a message too !
Shall I reinstall all programs ?
Tks for your help !

IF it is in windows me or 98 go for sacnreg/restore

In winme , u can go for system restore if u have any.
boot in safe mode or command prompt-

type C:\windows\command
run scanreg/restore

ladles and jellyspoons, i too have problem OE : 0197 : BFF77328
but when i reboot it fixes most of the time...
However, i seem to have narrowed it down to the file NDIS.VXD.
You can test this your selves by choosing selective startup, and then loading all files except this one.

That deals with a symptom but i know not the cause...
is anyone out there with linux knowlege that could try linux on an offending machine to see if it just microsoft.

I found this site by accident so if any one can further this cause.
please let me know.

I guess probably this error msg might have appeared when u installed some new program so try uninstalling the new progrmas that you installed after the error msg started coming up and then give a try i guess some the s/w or drivers for usb devices might be causing this problem so try uninstalling all related s/w which u have newly installed after which you got the error Fatal Exception OE:0197:BFF77328

Hope this works

Having suffered this problem for a while and tried everything I could on the net. I eventually took the plunge and did a clean install of WinME. I was more than a bit miffed when I got the same problem back, but only after installing ZoneAlarm Pro and Norton SystemWorks 2003.!

Uninstalling ZoneAlarm made it worse, but uninstalling NSW2003 rectified the problem. I have since reinstalled these and have had no further problems!

Hope this works for someone else.

I too get this error BFF7328 and also BFF7B018.
My one year warranty ran out (of course as soon as this started happening) so I had to pay for Gateway support on my ME edition.
They just farm out the help with a differnt company. Their help was useless, as you pay by the minute while they stall and try and figure it out. They have no clue what's happeneing with this error so save your $$. So then I tried paid support with Microsoft and it turns out they don't know either and in the end want me to do a clean boot. I have yet to do it, but I can say...this didn't start happneing to me until after I installed Norton Antivirus 2003. It could be coincidental, but nevertheless mentionable. While at the same time, I installed Kazaa, Kaboom and Nero, so it could be any of the programs that have a bad file. Someone suggested deleting applog (didn't work) and updating video driver (didn't work).

This is a problem with your video card driver.

Please update to the newest version on your video card manufacturer's website.

This should fix your problems.

Deleting the Applog files didn't work for me and I was wondering if the problem reoccurred for you and you found another solution.

I get the error OE: 0177: BFF77328 every once and a while when starting up. Sometimes I won't see it for 10 boot ups, other times it will happen twice in a row.

I'm running an Athlon XP 1800 Processor with an MSI nForce motherboard (DDR RAM).

I've tried disconnceting USB devices, but that didn't work. I'm running a selective startup with the minimum amount of applications running (nothing but necessary windows applications) but I still get the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I had this problem (OE:0177:BFF77328) and a host of others regarding defragmenting drives on WinME. Deleteing all files in C:\WINDOWS\APPLOG seem to take care of the problem. Hope this works for you too. GOODLUCK!
