Computer freeze after mouse click Post a Reply
From: Izy on 04/13/2002
I have the following configuration:

AMD DURON 700
LS K7VAT
128MB DIMM SDR
GUILL 3D PROPHET II MX 32M
TEAC CD54W

W2000

My system freezes on irregular basis, from 5min. to few hours from start. It always happens, when I click or move the mouse. It happens in different programs. After that, I have to re-boot the system. CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn’t work. It never freezes when I run hardware testing program like Sandra or CPU Stability Test.
I have already tried several things:
Format the disk and installed w2k again. Installed newest drivers for all components. Check the fans. Changed the RAM. Changed three mousses with appropriate drivers.

I will appreciate if any body tell me what is next to do.

Thank you wary much for answer.

Mine k7vat also freeze up time to time. I solve it by using the original driver for my Gforce2 MX400 32MB from the instalation cd.

It seem like this problem occur if I use the driver from my XP operating system or the latest nvidia driver downloaded from nvidia website. try to use the instalation cd if you have.

Anyone know whether this MOBO can support ECC SDRAM or not???????.

After 2 years of useless guesses with K7VAT I reluctantly resolved
myself to a motherboard change.
I had a system K7VAT with two 128MBytes PC133 SDRAM,
Radeon7000/VE video card and some other peripherals.
In addiction to your guesses I upgraded also the bios.
One thing: my K7VAT is marked as 2.0 release but uses the old VIA
southbridge, supporting only ATA66 IDE controllers.
Some "VIA latecncy patches" are availbale on the internet, I used them
and they alleviate the problem but do not solve it completely.
The patch should be included in the latest VIA Hyperion/4in1 drivers,
but also indpendent people worked on this, the most famous one is
George Breese. You can find his latancy patch under the URL:
http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/
Good luck and let me know if you had success with your guesses,
so I can made an old useless board working again.....

Not sure if it'll help, but here's a minor point. Sometimes i've found that getting older versions of drivers fix such problems. If accessible, try getting the second to most recent version of your video card driver or NIC driver (if applicable).
