WINNT32 caused invalid page fault in module kernel Post a Reply
From: Tim on 05/13/2002
I am in the process of upgrading to Windows 2000 on my peer to peer office computers that currently have Windows 98 SE. During the report phase of installation, I get the message WINNT caused an invalid page fault in Module KERNEL 32 DLL at 0187:bff88396.

What is the solution?

The said Microsoft KB article didn't fix the problem for me. It claims that if Oracle for 9x, CabnetWare, Quickbooks, or Powerbuilder (or probably a combination) exists on your system, the upgrade process will fail while examining programs. My client's 98SE laptop has Quickbooks and CabnetWare and even after changing all the file names (and rebooting), I received the same message.

My resolution was to ultimately uninstall all instances of Quickbooks and CabnetWare, then manually remove the installation folders and reboot. Worked after that.

One source says it's a Quickbooks problem and to rename QBconv32.dll .. remember to change it back after the install.

I had the same problem. I found the on microsoft's web site.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q252725&It is a known problem (to microsoft). If you have Quickbooks or a few other programs you have to rename a couple dll files until the upgrade is finished.--John
