Aloha from Maui,

Just installed a new video card (Xtasy GeForce MX 420) and now I get the message "Iexplore has caused an error in user.exe????" on many different web applications, especially JAVA based ones.... i think?.

HELP!!! Any advice or tips on where I can go for a fix would be greatly appreciated.

I got Iexplorer has caused an error in USER.EXE and will now close. If
you are having trouble restart your computer. This is Balogna!

To repair problem I used in Microsoft ME, Start(button), Run "msconfig" click on the Start Tab if you have a program "whenUSave" uncheck it.

Next, close everything, then shut down the computer after you have saved all the files you have made(system state). Then Reinstall the full windows operating system which includes an automatic formating of the harddrives... handled for you in the process. Reinstall all internet explorer browser (can be found on word disk on some Operating systems), Windows word. etc. Reconfigure the internet in Dial-up Networking icon in the control panel. It will now work if the proper configuration for the internet ISP is done as suggested above. You may have to refresh the e-icon and the connection icon for your ISP if you have two. I use Bellsouth for ISP with homepage for Internet Explorer, and Hotmail for e-mail.

just a questiop, i recently was given a graphics card by an uncle. the, geforce 4 pci 420, however as soon as i uninstall the new drivers, have installed direct x 8.1, so it knows its there, and then i put the geforce in and install the drivers on the cd that comes with the card, i restart the computer it all seems fine....

then the hp symbol on the desktop comes up for about 2 seconds, and then the screen goes all funny colours and the thing dosent work arghhhhh!

Please if anyone could help i would be very grateful :)

The error is due to an incompatibility between iexplorer and the nvidia drivers.

Remove them using add-remove-programs and let windows use its own geforce driver.

Just a guess, you are running ME?

USER.EXE is associated with multiple user accounts. Do you have multiple user accounts on your computer?

It is possible that after installing your video card, the network login type changed to either windows logon or microsoft network logon. If you are using multiple user accounts, it is necessary to use the microsoft family login.

Let me know if I am way off base. If I am not, I would be happy to tell you how to change this setting.

Did you uninstall the old video card and drivers before you installed the new card?

Check your add/remove programs and make sure you removed and device drivers from the old card. (For examply 3Dfx tools and the like) You may even need to install the old card again, let Windows detect it, then in the device manager change it's driver to "Standard VGA". Reboot, then shutdown the PC, remove the old card and install the new card.

Once all that is done, make sure you run DirectX 8.1 setup so direct x knows the new card exists.

Good luck

Honestly, your best best and what I do is simply reinstall the operating system when changing/upgrading video card. That is the best method of preventing conflicts/errors
