From: Erik on 06/27/2002
Everytime I go to a website such as www.importtuner.com, I will receive this error. Also I receive errors similar to this after closing other programs such as winmx... usually dealing with user.exe. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?

: USB modems create a lot of havoc! Why don't you evaluate if that is causing your problem? Some of the drivers have been known to conflict with the units.

I have a HpPavlion 866mhz Intel Celeron 256ram,Gerforce4 64mb 3d card,

And if i remember right, This all started when i put in my DSL in my USB portand i have already done a full System Recovery and it didn't help at all,SO now everytime i go to certainWebsites,
Iget "Iexplorer/Waol Has caused in error in User.exe"

Plz help!!

mmm....
I have actually done that for one of my customer,
(found that solution on microsoft's site)
I have now gone so far as to reload o/s (98) instead of ME, but still get this stupid error.

Its a P4 2gig (msi)
with geforcemx440 (msi)
creative 5.1 sound,
512mb rimms
Pinnacle studio card
usb usr modem.

on the clean inastallation i installed ie5.5, winzip, pinnacle s/w, hp printer s/w and all the relevant drivers and office 2k.
I installed norton system works afterward to troubleshoot the error - no luck.

Memory was tested with goldmem from goldmemory.cz,
vga card tested with troubleshooter.

Tossup between faulty m/b or pebkac...
(i'm positive all was well when I left the premises.)

: You may be off on this one computerpilot... I believe that I have a corrupted file or something. I too, like Rich, have windows ME.

Yes Erik and I just put this system together last monday brand new so I think my problem may be a corrupt file in windows and I have been recommended to reinstall windows me.....which I will not be able to get around to for a couple of days , but if that fixes I will post.
Thx

It sometimes is really hard to get the full extent of what a user is running with a short post. I start with the easiest solutions and work forward. I would spend evey waking hour of my day posting every possible solution known to man for some of these short posts.

Here is another possilblity. This also can occur when an entry in the History folder has become damaged and the Internet Explorer AutoComplete feature cannot process it. Since I am unsure of your operating systems, you should check out KBA Q221085. Here is the instructions for Windows 9X users.

Windows 9x:

1)Click Start , click Shut Down , click Restart in MS-DOS mode , and then click OK .

2)At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command, and pressing Y if you are prompted to confirm folder deletion:

cd\windows
deltree history
exit

After you complete the above steps, re-enable the AutoComplete feature:

1)Click Start , point to Settings , click Control Panel , and then double-click Internet .

2)Click the Advanced tab.

3)In the Browsing section, click to select the Use inline AutoComplete for Web address check box and the Use inline AutoComplete in Windows Explorer check box.

4)Click OK .

Hope this helps. Reinstalling an operating system should be your last resort.

Do you have multiple users set up on your PC? Also, do you have a password enabled on bootup?

The password only locks you out of some networking capablities. Otherwise, it is useless to a win 9x user.

Click, start, search, look for files with a PWL or PWD extension (*.pwl or *.pwd).

If you find any, then delete them. Right-click on your network Places icon and choose properties. Make sure the boot up protocol is windows logon. If you are not intentionally using the Multi-user capabilities, then disable them in the control panel and delete any other profiles that might be set up.

I think that you are having an issue with this particular website because it is trying to access a cookie that has been locked by this login password.

Let me know if I am way off base or you need more specific directions on how to fix this issue. I can go step by step if need. Just post back or send me an email.
