Windows XP hangs at restart Post a Reply
From: Storm on 01/01/2004
I am having a bit of a problem with my laptop. It is a Compaq Presario 3005US, 40 GB HDD, 448MB RAM, NIC and modem, Windows XP-SP1. The only non-OEM hardware I am using is a Linksys 802.11G PCMCIA card with the latest driver. The computer will not restart. I have run the restart command from the command line, start|shutdown|restart, etc... The computer gets to the logoff screen, and hangs. I can turn off the computer fine, but it becomes a bit of a hassle when I install new apps, etc...
I have tried reimaging the PC from the Compaq recovery CDs, which didn't work. Not a big deal though, since I mucked up the computer pretty bad with a lot of Stardock applications, and it was easier than sorting through the registry to clean the PC up.
I can't check the BIOS for ACPI, since it is OEM and the BIOS is pretty much locked (all I can change is the boot order).
There are no error messages associated with this problem.
Thanks
Storm
