Go to the task manager and you will see intersvc.exe running and this is the program screwing with the pc. It makes the svchost crash and also runs the cpu at % 100.

to solve this problem go to

Open up Registry Editor (Start Menu -> Run -> regedit).

In Registry Editor, go to My Computer ->

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Run

on the left side locate intersvc.exe and delete it. Restart the computer and the problem is solved

i've got TWO HP Pavilion's circa 1999 that i upgraded from 98 to 2000 for friends/relatives, and BOTH of them get the same svchost.exe error after they connect to the internet via dialup modem for a short time. same issues on each one, no printing, no copy/paste function, etc. Norton can't seem to fix it, but i do suspect a worm or something.

From what I can tell, this seems to be a welchia worm infection. Welchia is a variant of the MSBlast virus. I have exactly the same symptoms as you do, and I'm busy applying the patch procedure as I type :)

Will let you know if it's successful!
