 Word & Access suddenly won't "talk&qu Post a Reply
From: Bob on 11/21/2003
I'm running Win93 SE on a Dell Pentium III system. Plenty of RAM. I've been using some programs based on Access and also use some Access data bases as the source of data for some Mail Merge files in Word. The Access program uses a Word document as its primary support. I use Office 2000 for both programs.

A while ago both types suddenly stopped working. The Access program would run fine until it went to write the Word report and then it would just hang. I would find a second instance of Word opened up when I did a CTRL-ALT-DEL and the file that it was trying to use to write the report would show up with a tilde indicating it was open. I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL and but out of both Access and the new instance of Word. I eventually ran the Office 2000 Repair faciltiy from the installation disk and things seemed to straighten out. It's doing the same thing again but I am not getting any help by running the Office repair facility.

I also get "Msgsrv32 no responding" sometimes in the CTRL-ALT-DEL list of programs running. That would seem to be a windows thing.

Any help? Driving me crazy. Thinking of updating to Windows XP just in the hopes that will fix things but I don't really want to run XP.

How's this -- I figured out my own answer for another posting here. After posting my question I was poking around and saw someone was having a problem with "Wnd for RNAdmin" popping up when they tried to turn off the computer and otherwise being a problem. I was having that too but did not connect it to the problem I posted. Now, of course, I realize the Wnd for RNAdmin did start at the same time.

IT's Real Player. I uninstalled it. Ran the Repair Office utility off the installation disk (who know if that was even necessary) and Voila -- everything works fine.

UNINSTALL REAL PLAYER. NEVER LET IT DOWNLOAD
