Windows ME Blue Screen Error - OE: 0177: BFF77328 Post a Reply
From: Danny on 10/06/2002
Someone asked about this a while back and someone said to delete the Applog folder in the windows system directory to fix it. It must not work in my case.

Restated Problem: I get the error OE: 0177: BFF77328 every once and a while when starting up. Sometimes I won't see it for 10 boot ups, other times it will happen twice in a row.

I'm running an Athlon XP 1800 Processor with an MSI (K7N-Pro) nForce motherboard (DDR RAM). Operating System is Windows ME.

The only processes starting up in the msconfig utility are necessary windows applications: systray, scanreg, PCHealth, Statemgr, and SSDPSRV.

I'll provide any more information if it is needed. I've tried a lot of things to correct this problem such as redundent dll scans, un-installation of programs, and the deletion of unused registry entries. In fact, doing an internet search for the OE error provides this site as the only match.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Danny

I was getting ERROR OE:01A7:BFF77328 on a Compaq Deskpro with Windows ME, after I added Norton Systemworks. I had to go into "run" from the start menu, type in "msconfig" change to selective startup select the Startup tab and shut off (clean sweep) from my startup menu. I don't know if this will solve every ones problem, but it solved mine.

This type of problem occurs with viruses on your bios system or an application from your graphics card. To get rid of it you'll probably have to update your bios system and restart all over again, with your graphics card you'll maybe have to reinstall the drivers or update it.
TRY TO SEARCH UP FOR VIRUSES IN BIOS SYSTEM, YOU MAY FIND SOMETHING!!!.

I have an error similar to that one, too. Sometimes, when I shutdown my computer, I get a fatal exception 0E error at 0177:BFF996AE. If anyone has a solution for this type of error, could you please E-mail me at leek886@yahoo.com , it would help me a bunch. Thanx

Hi Danny.

You are not the only one with exactly this problem....
My BSOD error is: 0E: 01CF: BFF77328. With a MSI K7 Turbo2 mobo (PC133 memory), a Geforce MX 200 videocard and a Athlon XP 900 and Windows Me. Where did I hear that before? I have tried nearly everything to attack the problem, but no results.
It certainly looks like a combination hardware problem. I never get the error when starting up in safe mode. The error pops up just after the screen goes black for a moment, when windows is loading the video-drivers.
The same videocard performs OK in an other mobo. So I suspect the MSI-mobo.

Peter.

OK - I have a Geforce 2 MX400 so I'll try an updated driver and let you know.

Thanks.

In October, I was on drugs or something.

Please don't listen to that old advice.

This is an error message that occurs with a corrupt or outdated video card driver. Usually GeForce-type cards.

Go download yourself an updated driver and you should feel a little better. I should warn you that sometimes the error messages associated with the GeForce cards may require more than a new driver.

Just a comment - I'm running Windows ME and it worked fine until I removed my MS Sidewinder Jstick and added a Saitek Cyborg 3D USB jstick.
Now I see the exact same symptoms as Danny - intermittent BSOD on startup. I hit a key to continue and all runs OK.

I'll check the MS WinME support site for help but I won't hold my breath. I'm running WinUpdate which should add patches automatically.

Well, at some point after running windows 9X operating systems, you get a little better at trying to troubleshoot these quarky error messages. However, I have given up and upgraded to a better 'error-reporting' operating system, such as Windows 2000 or XP. I appologize that I do not recognize your error message right off, but I do have some suggestions...

If this particular error message is not too common (not found in Internet search), then it may indicate an unusual driver issue. What I mean is, if the memory address is unusual, then most likely it is a driver or hardware device that not many individuals use. Also, you have indicated that you have removed most of the startup programs, then the only items left are the operating system files and drivers.

Also, considering its inconsistancy, I would not suspect the RAM to be the issue.

Have you tried consecutive 'selective startups' to try to determine the cause? The last item to load before the BSOD would indicate the culprit.

Consider recent hardware/software changes that might have triggered the error. One thing I would look into is recent addition of USB devices or network addition/changes.

I hope this helps. I hate troubleshooting error BSOD's, but it is an unfortunate part of working with Windows 9X operating systems.
