Faulting application explorer.exe faulting module Post a Reply

Error: Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module msvcrt.dll,

I have winxp pro and cannot do a search anymore. Windows explorer closes down all the time. I have done a repair reinstall, all windows updates, etc. I really don't want to reformat and cannot seem to get this problem fixed. I saw a very similar post except it was faulting module wininet.dll instead of msvcrt.dll. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was troubleshooting a different problem for a client and tried something and it worked. I went into msconfig under processes and unchecked "indexing service" by microsoft and all is well. This is after reinstalling 4 times and many hours of research. I did a selective startup and then just went through a process of elimination until I found the one that was causing the problem. First I just unchecked "load system services" & "load startup items", but left system.ini and win.ini checked. After restarting I tried to do a search and it did it perfectly. After that I started checking things in system services - 15 at a time - and just kept narrowing it down from there. I hope this helps others with the same problem. I just found this website today and it really is great.
