 KRNL386.EXE not found!!! Post a Reply
From: mike on 08/06/2003
OS = Windows ME

Computer froze while not doing anything!!! Manually powered down - on restart it gave a blue screen almost instantly stating it failed to load SHELL and KRNL386.EXE was not found!

I reinstalled Windows into the Windows folder (using a 98 disc to validate upgrade) and on restart (when its searching for drivers) I get to errors - unable to find COMCTL32.DLL and cannot find SHLWAPI.DLL - clicked ok to both these - it then states EXPLORER.EXE not found Reinstall Windows!!!!

Any idea what has caused this problem and how do I get round it - should I delete everything in the Windows directory before reinstalling?? I have a lot of programs I still need!

To fix this problem (as long as you can still get into Windows) go to http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?comctl32 to download the first DLL file (COMCTL32.dll) then go to this http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shlwapi to download the other dll file. And then hopefully this should fix your problem.
