Computer only starts in Safe Mode (Green lines at Post a Reply
From: Bill on 06/06/2003
My home PC,

Pentiun, 901 Ghz, 128 RAM computer only starts up in safe mode. I tried defragmenter, scan disk, everything I can in safe mode, no problems. When I restart in regular mode, it starts up, then after 2 or 3 seconds after the desktop is in place, green lines are at the top of the screen. Any advice? I can't really back up my system in safe mode either, what do I do?

I found today that if I slow down the clock on the DRAM, all my problems disappeared. Go into the CMOS setup during bootup and in the CHIPSET FEATURES, set the DRAM clock speed slower than what the chips are rated. My DRAMs were PC-133, but I finally tried running then at 100 MHz and voila - all my problems disappeared,

This happens to me too. I upgraded recently to a PIII-667 MHz and since then get all kinds of Fatal Exceptions. Some programs will give the "Blue Screen" and others just crash to the green lines at the top of the screen.

I have a Jaton B-32 AGP video card and VIA chipset and saw a MS Knowledge base article about incompatability between these two.

Anyone else out there having similar problems? I'm trying to figure out what's up and will post whatever I find out.
