JIM,
7-13-2004,
Feller, I have worked off and on for over 6mo's on this same problem on an IBM 450 desk-top. It has absolutely drove me mad... I have reinstalled IE6 many times, used all the tools to fix IE6 - many times, reinstalled W-98 over W-98 two times un-installed 98 completely back to 95 then reinstalled 98... Fixed the registry, opt'ed the registry... used RegCleaner, Webroot-Washer, scan disk, disk-de-frag - many times!!! I could go on and on, until Google stumbled on Susie's post to you, I followed the thread... AND I used YOUR fix - PRESTO !!! there it was... a long "." extension from HotBar... Like you suggested I deleted it and re-started computer...
IT's Fixed THANK-YOU JIM

I did this, alas, no change. I have been looking at microsoft.com for answers but haven't tried this exact address. Will go there. Any other hints?

This error may be caused by corrupt Registry entries. This
can only improve the systems performance and may or not correct the problem.
********************************************************************
Reboot, then press and hold the 'CTRL' key to enter the boot menu. Select the
'COMMAND PROMPT ONLY' option and press enter.
*********************************************************************
At the C:\> prompt, type SCANREG /FIX and press enter. This can take up
to 10 minutes or so depeding on your system. If the FIX procedure succeeds, run the command again.
******************************************************************
SCANREG /OPT. This will optimimize the registry. If all goes well, reboot
and make a known good backup with SCANREGW form the Start\Run

Well i hope this works for you. let me know if it works peace.
