I have done a partial install of Win 98 SE. I have input the product key and my name with company. Suddenly, the blue screen appears and I cannot get it to continue installation / setup. I have Fdisked and formatted using the CD and the boot floppy. Occurrence of the error is always at the same point. I have installed an ATI RAGE 128 PRO AGP and 128 MB PC100 RAM. There are no other cards on the motherboard. The CPU is an AMD 450MHZ K6. The BIOS is up-to-date. Any suggestions?

1st thing, its a bad idea to run an AMD-K62 at more than 2.2 or you can fuck yer shit up.

try opening yer hard drive up and cleaning dust out of it with a small brush or something like that.. dont be poking and prodding at shit though.
and if that doesnt help..
clear some shit outta yer startup.. or stop running so much fucking shit at once.
to remove shit from yer startup
Start - Run
type in msconfig
click the startup tab at the top right
and uncheck any shit that you dont want running.

Had the same problem but not during installation. It happened on boot up. I uninstalled my virus scanner, check the registry, and updated msn messenger. Fix the problem

I had exactly the same problem with my AMD k6-2 450 in a PCChips motherboard. Finally (after 3 or 4 frustrating hours)tracked it down to the CPU requiring a slightly higher core voltage. This is generally adjustable in the BIOS. Mine was set to 2.2v when I had the problem. Increasing the core voltage to 2.3v completely cured the issue. Hope it works for you too. Good Luck.

Try going into safe mode and setting your graphics acceleration to none or 1 (instead of full).

I had the error: A fatal Exception has occured at:0167:BFF9DFFF, & I found what got rid of it was:
1.Run a system File checker
2.Run Windows Explor Tool
3.Do a Registry Checker
4.Run a Dr. Watson
5. Reinstall My Video Driver
Worked for me, but every time I run a system scan disk & a defragmenter I had to do the whole process over again.
