My computer freezes when downloading from the net.

I`m fairly new at computers so this problem has screewed me up. What do i do when my computer freezes when i`m downloading something from the internet? I can`t even fully scan the computer for viruses. I`m running windows xp. Is this a common problem?

You have an event viewer in XP under control panel>administrative tools>event veiwer...look in both areas, (application and system) for error messages relating to the freeze of your pc, Copy this text in the event viewer window and paste it into notepad and email it to me...
