Windows 98 pc

Just installed media player 7.1, when trying to start media player or run avi's, screen freezes and I have to restart. Tried uninstalling, re-installing, checked various options, faq's, web-sites, no fix found...anyone any ideas?

: Many Thanks, had a look at that but only have windows 98. Would you know if it is possible to install DirectX 8.1 on this operating system? If so, will install and re install media player. I have found Microsofts site to be abysmal in helping with this problem.

Yes! DirectX 8.1 should work with Windows 98 (first or second edition). Here is the website (to avoid the abysmal):

http://download.microsoft.com/download/DirectX/Update/8.1b/W98Me/EN-US/DX81eng.exe

Then reinstall Windows Media Player:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/

Post back if you still have problems!

: Make sure that you have DirectX 8.1 installed. This is the newest version (that I am aware of) and I think that Media Player 7.1 requires this. You can download this for free on Microsoft's website. After you install DirectX 8.1 on your computer, reinstall Media Player 7.1. Do you get the same error message?

: Post back if you do and I will give you some more help.
