Cant logon to windows xp, computer shuts down when Post a Reply
From: Marco on 03/10/2003
I have a desktop with Windows XP Home installed. There are five different accounts on the welcome screen. Whenever i type the password to any account, it says "loading personal settings" and then it shuts down. I have four kids and suspect that one of them might be the culprit, although they have sworn up and down that there was no foul play! Please help. Thank You

Opps!

You forgot to activate it within 30 days. This is a classic example. You will not be able to reintall the operating system unless you activate it immediately.

Do an 'over-install' of the operating system. When it detects the operating system, simply point it to repair the opertating system. It will notify you that you need activate windows right away.

If you have an illegal copy, go buy the upgrade for $99 and follow the same instructions. This version will activate and you will not loose anything.

Good luck.

Take your origional Instalation CD for XP and boot from it, Wait until you get to the option of using rge recovery menu, Drop into the main windows instalation. The option is '1' and press enter over the Administrators password, You will face a Cmd type of consol, go to root and type in 'chkdsk /p' and the check disk will start and look for any file errors,. If this does not resolve the issue you may need to try to get into at least one account if you can and either backup the drives important files and re-install windows over itself or try and use the last good known configuration mode at startup menu in the boot process (Press F8 while PC boots into windows)..There is a strong possibility that the account profiles are corrupt, you could try to delete these accounts and re-assign them.
