I went to device manager, sounds/video/game, and was supposedly updating my driver. After this, my computer does not see a device for audio. I try to reinstall driver, and it asks me for a disk. I do not have this disk. Also, when i go back to device manager, the crystal fusion is no longer in the list. However, I have a new selection in the device list. "Other devices" and listed under this tab is PCI multi media audio device. I tried to get drivers for this also, but also need a disk. Im not very knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff. I tried to play mp3, and i get a error saying that another device is using audio, please wait until device is free, then try again. I thought about reseating the card. (didnt see a card actually, therfore thinking it is installed right on the motherboard). but once again if i do reseat the board, will have to get drivers, which need THE DISK> How do I go about fixing this problem. Sure sux not having sound on PC. Thank you for your help in advance

To Stephanie:

To fix your problem..... when it asks for the disk it is asking for the operating system disk such as windows98 or XP CD etc. Put your disk in when it asks and say ok... it should put back the drivers that are now missing. Then you may need to go out to internet to find a newer driver for that sound card so go to driverguide.com and type in crystal sound fusion driver for whatever operating system you have. Good luck. Hope this helps.

I struggled to find the drivers for my Hewlett Packard Vectra VL600

on the HP website or on the crystal website

I went to Install new Hardware , found the description of the PCI sound onboard the motherboard , plugged that into driverguide.com and got the right driver..

The ones I got from HP actually crashed the machine , so badly I had to restart in safe mode and run the installer again choosing unistall this time , just removing the drivers in device amanger wasnt enough...

anyway driverguide.com came up with the goods for ZERO dollars , so that cant be bad...

We FIXED this problem for my mom's ThinkPadA22p, after a lot of effort:

1. go to

http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4JRMN9.html?up=unknownuser1004106089

2. Follow txt instruction, but note ***

Uninstalled sound device (but I think we could have just tried "update driver") will auto-detect

Be sure to specify the directory in which the .exe extracts when you "Specify a location:"

***Unlike the txt says, it doesn't choose the correct driver!!!
You MUST choose the driver manually...

"Crystal SoundFusion(tm) PCI Audio Accelerator in this case, dated 7-19-2000

An aside, but I don't think it helped to solve the problem. Out of desperation, I installed this, but I don't think it fixed the problem, but in case this is relevant:
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4PJN96.html?up=unknownuser

Here, i'll post the starting page for you instead of page 3. There are more Crystal Sound Fusion drivers listed before page 3. Page 3 is where I found what I needed and posted the URL not thinking, sorry.

Good luck!

I went to IBM to have them fix the problem. Instead they recommended me to insert the recovery cd and reformat the hard drive. Isn't it reidiculous? Because we don't have the Crystal Sound Fusion installation disk and Windows installtion cd and we had to reformat our hard drive just because the sound magically disappeared.

I'm not going to reformat yet. I'm sure there's a way out. Please don't give up hope yet. We'll all try to figure out what can be done. I'm sure lots of people are experiencing this issue. There must be a way to get hold of the drivers.

So if any of us figured out what to do, please don't leave the rest behind. Let us know how you manage to fix this problem. Thanks a lot.

you can find many of these drivers online. but if youre having problems with your modem, you will find it hard to go get them.
for the latter i would suggest going to the library and using their internet connection.

p.s. if you are going to the library, bring a disk to get the driver home.

Similar problem. I have an HP Vectra VL i8. There is driver support for the HP at http://h20004.www2.hp.com/soar_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix32861en_US.html
maybe this driver will work for some of you. The driver does install with a yellow "!" next to the icon when looking in the "device manager" tab in the system screen in the "settings" application (start >settings >system >device manager)
Installation tips on the HP site states that the yellow "!" goes away after you update the driver using the "update driver" button on the device manager screen. Here is the HP text:

Installation Steps
1  Open Device Manager.
2  PCI Multimedia Device will have a yellow marker the first time the operating system is installed.
3  Select "Properties" on the yellow marker.
4  Select the "Driver" tab.
5  Click on "Update Driver".
6  You will need the Windows Second Edition to complete the WDM installation.
7  The entry that will show up in the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers is: Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
8  A little Sound Icon appears on the Task Bar upon completing the driver installation.

Problem is, no update is found. I do not have THE DISK either. Windows prompts to use the existing driver.
So far I'm still looking for an answer. I can be reached at barclaybenton@yahoo.com
