Computer powers up normally, but no hard drive act Post a Reply
From: Dragoon on 02/10/2003
I recently purchased and installed a Biostar M7VIT (KT400) motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (333) processor, 256MB PC2700 (DDR333) OCSYSTEM RAM, and a PowMax 400W PSU. When installing this with my old gear (nVidia GeForce3 Ti500 (AGP4X), Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy, Belkin LAN card, Seagate Baracdua IV 80GB 7200 RPM hard drive, Lite-On 40x/12x/48x CD-R/W drive, and a 16x Creative Labs DVD drive), The system powers up normally; fans spin, lights illuminate, but the hard drive never shows any activity. As such There's never any monitor activity and basically nothing happens, so I can't even get to the POST, let alone the BIOS. I'm running (or rather trying to run) Windows XP Professional. Any kind of help would be immensely appreciated!

I hope you did not buy anything at EconoPC....

Bad motherboard. If nothing happens and there are no error beeps, there is a good chance that the motherboard is bad. This also probably will indicate a bad processor.

Good luck on the exchange! RMAs are a nightmare. I think I have lost nearly $3000 in a lifetime with RMAs gone bad.
