Trying to help a friend get her aol 7.0 working. She tried to install 8.0, but didn't have enough ram so went back. Now 7.0 dials, connects, gets number list, but won't connect to AOL. It will dial the first number, hang up, try the second number then it just hangs at "talking to network" and when I cancel and exit, I get an illegal operation from waol.exe

I have already uninstalled and stripped everything out of the registry, I have also renamed the winsock and reinstalled the network stuff in windows, so the winsock is new. Still no luck. Help?

I had almost identical problem;AOL couldn't help.Drastic Solution: I reformatted hard drive,reinstalled Windows and got updates(immediately).Computer works better than it ever has. (Note:updates seemed to eliminate hibernation option-they were having problems with this anyway.)
