IDE2 crashes everything, senseless, bizarre, need Post a Reply

I put a CDRW in brother's computer under the DVD-rom, and then nothing is recognised (HD on IDE1, or anything on IDE2) and it can't boot. Now if I take both the DVD and CDRW out of IDE2 I can get it to boot off HD, but then, when I try to put either one or two things back in IDE2 the computer refuses to see anything anywhere and can't boot. I am not a novice and have changed IDE cables, switched jumper settings, reset BIOS defaults, made BIOS search for IDE tools etc. I think I've done it all haven't I? The OS is on the HD when it does boot and the power cords all work too. I don't know what else there is.

I have seen this when you have a misssmatch on the BUSS speed.
If you have a Raid controller running with a 133 Hrtz BUSS.
and the CDRW will only run at 33 or 66 Hrtz. The system will not boot. You can either replace with compatable equipment or puchase a secondary PCI IDE controller... Hope this helps.
