What does the error message say? Is it a Blue Screen?

There are quite a few things that would make WAOL.exe crash. Do you have AOL 7.0 installed? Why don't you try updating to that version if you don't have it?

Otherwise, I would consider what recent programs you installed. Most time, when someone is having the exact same problem after a restore (compaq formats your hard drive during the restore operation so just about nothing can survive), then it usually indicates some new software that the user has installed and reinstalls after reinstalling the operating system becuase it is recent. If you simply reinstalled over the previous OS, then this does not apply to you, neccesarily.

Please post back with more information so I can help you.
