Invalid page fault in SHDOC401.dll at 0177:500054 Post a Reply
From: Bruce on 12/01/2002
I'm using a P450 with Windows98. I was doing an update to IE from Microsoft's site. I now get the message: Explorer This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. I read a similar post where the solution was to repair or uninstal IE but I can't get to my control panel to do this. Following the uninstall, the advice was then to remove SHDOC401.dll and then install IE v6.0.

Here's the information from the Registers:

During boot up I get the msg:

Rem TShoot rem By Windows98 Network for Netware Upgrade
C:\WINDOWS\odihlp.exe
MS Workgroups ODI/NDIS3 Mapper Version 2.0
Error: Cannot find LSL
ODI/NDIS3 Mapper: Initialization Failure

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

(In English: delete abnormal long file name extensions (more than 20 Characters) in Registry under Hkey Classes Root, these begin with a DOT e.g. .avi .zip)

I read the post you mentioned. However, I can't access my control panel to Uninstall IE. Do I have to re-format my Hard Drive or is there a simpler solution?
Thanks

I am not sure what is restricting you from getting to the Control Panel. Have you tried in Safe Mode?

Another option is to run the System File Checker to the operating system to see if it replaces some of the files that are causing the error message. This whole thing is being created by mismatched system file versions with the IE patch you installed.

Let me know if you are unsuccessful in Safe Mode and what is exactly restricting you from accessing your Control Panel.
