Was trying to find the cause of an explorer caused invalid page fault in module user.dll on my mothers pc. Brought it home and hooked up to my monitor. Pc found new hardware and I was trying to resolve the problem. I needed some more info so I rehooked up the monitor to my pc and did some searching on the web. Returned monitor to my mothers pc and now the monitor is not being found. I am not getting any input to the monitor at all. My mother has a off brand store built pc. There is an alarm sound coming from the speaker that is mounted in the pc cabinet. A short burst of sound then the pc power shuts off. I pulled the side and checked the connections and everything appears to be tight. I have repeated the experience several times and still no video. The cable and monitor is working fine with my pc. The operating system is windows 98 second version on both pcs. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Brad

I agree with the previous post. However, you may also want to check with your monitor plug pins. If one of these are bent, you may be getting a defective video card error from your BIOS.

Otherwise, RAM, processor, bad motherboard are all possibilities. The best way to find out what the beep code means is to find the motherboard manual, figure out the BIOS manufacturer, then go to their website on your computer and print off the list of codes. This will help you troubleshoot the exact hardware that is causing the problem.

Beeps at boot may mean bad RAM or some other boot problem, like it can't find the video card for some reason. You should always get a "post" message, showing a RAM test or some logo after reset/powerup. It is always at a low resolution and should show up on any monitor. Did you try plugging your monitor into the PC? If it's blank too, maybe you need to check that it's plugged in all the way, and/or if it's pci card, take out all the other cards and try it in a new slot, may be a IRQ conflict.
Just throwing out some ideas.
