There are two types of Ethernet cable (well, at least most commonly used anyway). Usually, a crossover cable is needed when a switch or hub is not involved and a direct connection exists between two devices. The crossover cable is usually a bright orange or red color and is labeled. You will need a crossover cable to go directly from your modem to your computer without using a hub or switch.

However, the NDIS error message is associated with a Ethernet card you have installed. You may also consider reinstalling or updating the driver for the device. This usually causes this type of error.

I'm having the same problem, but instead of AOL games its online bingo and gambling sites that I have downloaded and play online. You mentioned crossover cable...does that run from the main computer to the hub or the hub to the modem?

Sounds like a networking problem. I would try to uninstall AOL 8.0 and see if you get the same error message.

Just out of curiousity, why are you using AOL with cable? Is it the AOL cable service?

Also, what type of modem are you using? Is it Ethernet or USB? If you have it connected via USB, consider switching it to a new Ethernet card with cross-over ethernet cable. USB connections that transfer network data and windows 9X OS don't get along very well.

Let me know...
