I insert a CD and then it shows a menu. I just want it to sit there and wait till I want to access it.

Each time you insert a CD, simply hold down the shift key and it should bypass the auto-run feature. The problem with this is you have to hold it a long time to make sure it doesn't run.

For Audio CD's you could turn off auto play by clicking on My Computer and selecting any drive, then under the View menu, Folder Options. Under the tab File Types, find the CDAudio and edit it. Under the Actions list click Play and hit Set Default to turn it off. This should prevent audio CD's from playing automatically.

For program CD's, in System, under your Control Panel, under the Device Manager tab, you could select the CD ROM driver, then Properties and Settings. On some drivers, there is a check box called Auto Insert Notification , this reports to windows that a CD was inserted. If it's off, then the report doesn't get sent.
