Reply to Nate:5/4/99The programs are all standby types: a scheduler, a launch pad, an automatic backup program, et al. None of the are in operation without icons as you suggested, and ctl-alt-del doesn't help. This is an new installation of w98 and I am only now bringing up my old applications. I stupidly omitted one very important fact, during the boot and error message appears that, in the detail section, says: "EXPLORER caused an illegal page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE at 015f:0040c191." This error occurs even when W98 is booted in the safe mode. I have all the details on registers, stack dump, etc. if that will be of help. I had originally thought of this as a separate problem but it may be the cause of this.

When explorer.exe is not operating properly the task bar tray will also not function correctly.
