I am trying to install win95 over win3.11/DOS6.22.
When I run setup, I get a file error: Cannot find Suhelper.bin. Need help getting 95 installed on borrowed CD that I need to return. TIA, Larry

: Larry,

: there must be a second setup.exe in the folder itself, if it is an
: OEM-Version from Microsoft. I just checked that with US-Version and
: other language versions.

: I don't know of anything like that.

: Boot with a system disk with CD-ROM drivers.
: Rename "Win.com" in your existing Windows folder.
: Then run setup from DOS. That works.

There seems to be only one setup.exe in the root directory and none in the win95 folder. This is an original microssoft " for distribution with new PC only disc. Did they do anything to prevent unauthorized installation such as I am trying?

It could be that you have Windows 95B, which cannot be installed over
a previous operating system.
There is a trick to avoid the problems.
Boot with a system disk with CD-ROM drivers.
Rename "Win.com" in your existing Windows folder.
Then run setup from DOS. That works.

Probably you run the wrong Setup.exe file from the CD-ROM. Maybe your friend has burned the CD-ROM wrongly?
Explanation: There are two Setup.exe files on the Windows 95 CD-ROM.
One is located in the root folder of the CD-ROM and is 3664 bytes in size, while the
other is in the Win95 folder and is 5184 bytes in size.
You can use the Setup.exe file located in the root folder of the CD-ROM to start Setup without manually changing to the Win95 folder first.
This version of Setup.exe calls a file in the Win95 folder called Suhelper.bin,
which unloads the original Setup.exe and then loads the version of Setup.exe in the Win95 folder. Suhelper.bin also passes any command-line parameters to the version of Setup.exe in the Win95 folder. Setup then
continues normally. Suhelper.bin is necessary because there can be only one instance of Setup.exe loaded in memory at a time.

My advice: Remove all startup-programs first, reboot your computer and try the setup.exe file from within the Win95 folder on the CD-ROM. If that doesn't work, find another friend to borrow you a CD-ROM.
