DDHELP.DLL causes GPF Post a Reply
From: James on 08/11/1999
Ever since installing Microsoft's Midtown Madness Demo, DDHELP.DLL has caused a GPF in module SXG07MX1.DLL - Not only when running MM Demo, but in other programs such as Quicktime 4 and Flash 4. I have tried reinstalling all 3 of these programs, and Win 98SE, but to no avail - can anyone help???

the last I know is this error is relationed with old sound cards that directx don't support. Try removing your sound card to see if the error disappear.

: I understand that this DLL is connected with directX - try installing the latest version of DirectX you can find up to version 7 - should be on a coverdisk.

The problem may be that DDHELP.DLL or SXG07MX1.DLL are newer versions installed by MM demo, and so when you re-install quicktime or whatever, they figure that you have a newer DLL and leave it alone.

Thus, MOVING those DLL's to a "temp" folder (for safe keeping in case you want them back) and / or removing those programs and then RESTART and install what you want (leaving out MM demo).

Last time I installed something from MS it changed my default browser to IE, something I did not ask it to do, so MS stuff is not my best choice for software.
