Required to run Scan Disk every time I turn comput Post a Reply
From: SarahP on 02/24/2000
Power Spec PC (made by MicroCenter, a retail computer store out of Columbus, OH)
Intel pentium II
IBM compatible
Windows 98
Use Explorer
Norton AntiVirus installed

Every time I turn on my computer, I am asked to run ScanDisk. However, that takes so long, I opt to Esc out of it. It never did this until I had RoadRunner installed (a high speed internet do-hicky by Time Warner).
Also, computer locks up when left alone for any period of time. Error messages vary. Latest one:
"Fatal Exception 0E at 0028:C024A52C
VXD VMM(12)+0000052C"

How do I correct this?! I called technical support from RoadRunner. They said it wasn't their problem...I called MicroCenter, they referred me to my extended warranty company who said it wasn't their problem, either! Aack!

Another thing that has changed since RoadRunner:
When I choose Shut Down from the Start menu, I no longer get the message "It is now okay to shut off your computer." Instead, the computer just turns itself off.
Help! Thanks!

I suggest that you turn off screen saver, and any other programs running in the background ie anti virus etc.. The you need to do a thorough scan of your hard drive.. This will take forever, but it needs to be done, look for any bad clusters or other problem with your drive (scandisk can often repair some problems) once the scandisk has run then it should not ask you again until such time as you shut down incorrectly.

as for the locking up, you should visit this site for help as there are many people getting the lock ups and blue screen messages (http://discussions.virtualdr.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true)

as for the computer just turning off on shut down, this is normal for ATX boards and cases, on PIIs and PIIIs.

As for road runner.. well just get rid of it i would say.

My email address is gharrop@usa.net and my icq number is 12485471. Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes Garry
