Computer Freezing up constantly in the middle of t Post a Reply
From: John on 04/05/2000
Hello.....
I appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone can give me. The computer I own was developed/put together by a friend who builds computers. It is the equivalent of a Pentium 2 in memory. When ever I am on the internet or playing a game (Tiger Woods Golf), the computer will freeze up over time-guaranteed. This constantly happens. I just want to know if there is something I can look at, or something I can do fix this problem.
Once again, I appreciate any help!

There are a number of reasons for this type of problem, but one is heat. You can test that several ways, one would be to leave the cover off of the computer and see how that goes, or (while not doing anything important) put a small electric room heater near it to heat the insides (DON'T COOK IT! SHEESH!) to about 120F inside, a little more than your room could ever get and see what happens.
Then you could find out what is causing it by removing PCI cards, memory, whatever. If it's the mobo, that's not too hard to replace and not too much $. If it's the CPU, maybe look for a new on sale mobo and CPU combo.
The idea here is to test and find out what is causing it.
Try another OS, like get a linux live CD and run that for a long time and see if it glitches, maybe it's something with the install of your OS, try another HD (a old smaller one you have laying around) with a new clean install of your OS and see what happens.
Most problems like this are heat related because components on the mobo warp with heat and then connections break. Sometimes I have fixed the problem by sticking a folded piece of paper under the mobo at the right spot to warp the board up just a little, it doesn't take much. But it's hard to find the right spot, that takes a lot of time and idiots will probably try this and ruin their mobo so, WARNING, DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME (if you are an idiot).

what's up with geeks and their inabilty to communicate with humans beings? their lack of human contact is why they're computer geeks in the first place, aint' it? the responses on this site are exactly like that geek that jimmy fallon use to portry on saturday night live, i think it was nick burns, computer geek. i looked at this site to try to get some help, but christ, the geeks are shittin' all over the place. it stinks to much in here.

here's my reply to the responses: just answer the fucking question junior, if you can't or don't have the information shut the fuck up.

You need to post more info on your system bud. What does 'Equivalent of a pentium 2 in memory' mean exactly?

Has it always done this? How long has this been occuring? What are the exact specifics on your system...processor...ram.....OS.....motherboard if you know it....hard drive.

I can't even suggest unchecking things in the startup menu of msconfig cause I don't know if your running Win98 or 95 or whatever.
