windows 2000 new hard drive freeze problem Post a Reply
From: Alex on 07/21/2000
I have recently installed a new hdd in windows 2000 on secondary master with my cdrw as my secondary slave. Often when I am in windows and the computer tries to access the new hdd (6 gig ide) I can hear it starting to cycle and then the whole computer locks up and the only way to get out of this is to hold down the power button for a while until the pc is powered down. Ctrl-alt-dlt does not work and I have been trying various things to fix it with no avail!
Could someone please help me??

Okay, stupid questions but you never know, so just humor me here.... When you initially boot up the system, does it recognize the second drive? Are your jumper settings correct? Is the second hdd on the right place on the IDE cable?

2 x hdd (both ide, 13gb and 6gb)
6gb has the problem
