modem freezes on connect, bad shut downs Post a Reply
From: troll_lady on 10/17/2000
i'm running win 98 se on amd 486. 15 gb hhd, 64 ram
my problem is when i try to connect, whole system freezes. modem is new, MDP7800-U, made by lucent.
i have turned down speed of cpu to modem to 57600, also
added ini string ATZ. this has helped but not enough.
still freezing on connect.i have also looked at irq's, my modem is on irq 05. my sound card uses 09, i've been told this could be the problem, but i don't know enough about bios to fix it. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thank-you all in advance. if you ever need help, try, http://www.lockergnome.com/chat.html
i'm usually there.

I have had this problem before with several modems. I found that the problem is that the modem is software driven (not sure if yours is) you can get it to work for short periods but it will never work correctly. The way to solve this is to get a hardware driven modem. I have a 3Com external and it has never given me any problems. 3Com also do a hardware driven internal version aswell I think. If yours is hardware then I am sorry as I don't know. Hope this helps.
