I have exactly the same, and it is an Hewlett Packard Pavilion 4403. Anyone have any idea what could fix these 2 very annoying problems?

: Hello,

:
: My computer keeps doing two things, Either it locks up completely not letting me move the mouse so i can get out or it restarts itself. It seems to happen randomly, but I'm convised that it has something to do with how important whatever it is I'm working on is.
: I'm running windows 98 and my dear computer is a Hewlett Packard Pavilion. Any help would be appreciated its really starting to drive me nuts.

I have a computer a P4 1.8Ghz.
It's been working without any problem untill I decided to upgrade to windows xp pro.
I did intsall the new OS and MS Office and all the drivers. Printer, Scanner and my high speed internet.

Right after I was done with the software installation the computer restart itself once and then it keeps restarting or freezing up. I can't even move the mouse. I am not a hardware pro. but I have almost 8 years experience in fixing PCs and installing software... I don't know what's wrong with this system! Is it the stupid windows xp that doesn't match a certain PCs or what?

Any idea?

i have the same problem here i reinstalled windows xp pro .... nothing helps

i have a geforce mx 440 , does anyone else have this card????

And it isnt a power supply problem eighter someone who had the same problem with a 500w.

This is the weirdest crash ever , i am 26 years old. Hope we can find a problem fix!

This prob happens on Dells and others too, and on WindowsME as well as 98. The BEST solution is to (a) Kill ALL Advanced Power Management and hibernate and also to tell your PC to SHut down/power off when power button is pressed, and (b) learn the ins and outs of a wonderful hidden WindowsME and Windows98 computers, already in your Windows directory, called MSCONFIG.exe.
Just go to the RUN command and type msconfig. Then go to the STARTUP tab and remove BOTH LoadPowerProfiles and TaskMON, and anything you recognize as junk or don't want to load at startup. NEVER remove debugmanager, Systray, ScanRegistry, PCHealth, nor *StateMGR.
Back to the APM part, you go to Power Mgmt or Power Options and set it to ALWAYS ON (not home office/desk) and then ALSO set EVERY option to "never" then also go to the other tabs like Advanced or hibernate (on ME) and Advanced and follow the rest of what I said at the top about "when I press the power button.." (should say SHUTDOWN or POWER OFF) and about removing checkmark on Enable Hibernate support if you have a hibernate tab. If NONE of these fix your problem, you may have a virus, but that is less common for this problem.
