P3B-F - P3-1ghz with 768MB ram - used to have a voodoo3 video card in this thing, and it ran fine, and then all of the sudden the problems started. playing games it freezes up. so i thought it was the monitor i was using (old large monitor - RGB), so i got rid of it, after going through a geforce mx 420, and finally switching to a ATI radeon AIW 8500DV. 2 years later, it still freezes up on games, but not as much, but in the mean time it has started freezing more and more on flash, shockwave, and even java/javascript controlled webpages, with excessive animations.

i am completely 100% convinced that it is the motherboard itself, or a combination of the 1gig-p3 i have in here, which it was freezing even before i did that, and i had a p3-550.

to put it bluntly, the P3B-F may have been a overclockers dream back in '99, but i have never overclocked this board for 1 second, and have tried everything, including replacing the hard drive, processor, and power supply. plain and simple, the board is a piece of crap, other than the features it has, which, with it being now 2003, and 2004 looming, it is mighty UN-impressive. it has gotten worse over time, and to my belief, i think it is just going to keep on getting worse. overall, for the glitches it has started showing, i wish i had never purchased it. stay away from this board, which it also randomly reboots, and not just in one operating system - win xp, win 98 and 95c, and it is NOT the power supply either. you will be glad you did not waste your money on this one if you are looking for a older p3-slot 1 board.

This problem has been driving me insane for quite some time and I FINALLY fixed it on my machine tonight :)

I have a Compaq Presario 1700T Laptop (600 Mhz, 128 MB, XP Pro) using ATI Rage Mobility AGP, Here's what worked for me:

1. Right clicked on the desktop and chose "Properties"
2. Settings
3. Advanced
4. Troubleshoot
5. UNCHECKED "Enable Write Combining"

...and my problem was gone!

I hope it works for you as well because it's a maddening problem!

SOLUTION FOUND!!!

I am the one wo reported having the problem with the Flash one and a half year ago (12/29/2001). By then I had problems with the computer since I bought it in the year 1998.
After years of tests, improvements and changes of components (I tried also to change the BIOS), and getting crazy, I have discovered the reason of the crashes: the motherboard BN633.
I have changed the motherboard and the CPU to an ASUS motherboard with Pentium III, and it works perfectly!!! I can navigate through webs with Flash without any fear to freeze or suddenly reboot the computer.

So I recommend you to take the same measure. There is a way to change the motherboard by keeping all your programs intact, at least under Windows 2000. It is a little bit complicated, but it is worth it. You can find infos searching the Internet.

Good luck!!!

I HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE...READ THIS MAYBE YOU GET IN THE SAME SITUATION I WAS. THE FOLLOWING IS A CC OF A EMAIL SENT TO POWEREXTRACTOR.COM (FOR SURE THE PROBLEM IS RALATED TO A SOFTWARE CONFLICT) YOU HAVE TO FIND WHICH ONE IS CAUSING THE BUG. IT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S THE SAME AS IN MY CASE. IF YOU FIND WHICH PROGRAM CAUSE FLASH TO FREEZE...PLEASE REPORT IT! THANKS.
----------------------

I own a small business in Montreal. Recently I have tried your email extractor software, which I really like. I did not buy it because you do not offer direct download or cannot deliver the product immediately. This turn it very well because I have found an important bug in your software which many internet user and major developer will be more than happy to found where originate this problem.

I have done many searches on internet to solve this issue that seem to be increasing everyday. Although your software is probably NOT the cause of all this, for many it pin point a direction to fix this bug. I have been able to reproduce successfully this bug on all five computers we have tried. Before we could related this bug to your Poweremail extractor software, we have spend a lot of time to fix this including, updating our system’s software, making long distance technical support calls, email and so on. Here is the bug. Once Poweremail Extractor is been installed on our computer that all run on Windows 98 SE (we mean just installed NOT actually running), certain web pages or web site that include a Flash movie will freeze this windows in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 + even if your software is not running at all. In addition, it sometime causes Outlook Express 6 to crash issuing the following message even if your software is not running too:
MSIM cause in invalid fault in Poweremail.dll (or Poweremailextractor.dll -> can't remember exactly)

After many days spend to solve this issue, because we really need flash to work on the site we build, we have been tips by two strange error messages, which appear to me personally, when I was reading my email messages in Outlook. I have decided to desinstall Poweremail Extractor and immediately check if Internet Explorer could now play flash movies and now it apparently solve all this. Internet Explorer now display flash movie correctly without freezing and Outlook Express has not crash since (many days).

Please note that flash movie could be as little as 15 kb and Netscape 4.7 / 6 is not affected and play correctly all flash movie embedded in web pages. Some web pages or sites that contain flash movie seem working find but most cause Internet Explorer to freeze and stop responding.

Here a link where it causes the browser to freeze (before we removed Poweremail Extractor):

http://www.netlabmultimedia.com/traduction.htm

We have done many tests to check if this web page could have errors in it but we could not find any, neither other independent technical support staff could not.

We hope this is interestin

I'm running into this as well, but I think in my case this may be because of the video driver. The card I use is an ATI AGP card Radeon VE (Dual head using a dongle to split the signal). A GeForce PCI (don't have an AGP available) card does not seem to have the problem, and neither does the Intel 815 chipset's native videocard. I have only tried this in Windows 2000.

In the information posted here, nobody mentioned what hardware specs they have, so I was hoping if someone can confirm if they were using an ATI card aswell, or if these were other cards (I did see the one posting talking about having the same issue after swapping out (nearly) all hardware, but it does not mention if this person was using an ATI card or not (and swapped with another ATI card).

: I have also the same problem. It appeared on Windows NT 4.0 and happens also on Windows 2000 Professional. I have replaced the RAM and the AGP graphics card, but the problem persists. I suspect it can be produced by the motherboard (I have a BN633, Pentium II).
: Please tell me if you find a solution. I'm still trying!

Same exact thing happens to me. I've upgraded to windows XP but that didn't fix the problem. I've removed all the hardware from my system.. and replaced it with different parts. The only thing i didnt change is the harddrive (quantum fireball 4gig) and the motherboad P3B-F asus.
