Fatal Exception Error OE possible modem related Post a Reply
From: Matthew on 07/02/2001
I have a PC with Win 98 2nd edition and when I go online (regular dial up) I get kicked off.
I hear the modem make a few clicks and I get the blue screen with:
"A Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 017F:BFF24DD5"
I also sometimes get the same with 017f:BFF72830, 017:BFF892AD and 017F:60105168

I idd a virus check and nothing came up. I've also check for virus infected files. I've ran scandisk, degfragmenter, emptied the temporary internet files and the temp files.
It is not the browser I have checked with another. It is not the resolution I have tried going from 800X600 16bit color to 640:480 16 colors. I have 128 megs of ram, it is a pentium 3 at 700Mhz.

The odd thing about it is the timing. I CAN get online...but the odd thing is WHEN it kicks me off. It's usually around 5 minutes but it's been as low as 50 seconds and as high as 30 minutes or so. I had a 50 minute session and thought it was over but it crashed later. I get the feeling that it is related to the modem because 1) it is when I go online reguardless of web activity (it's happened when I've been downloading a file, a website, java applets etc), 2) I hear the modem clicking (internal winmodem btw) and it turns off.

Any help would be greatfully helpful. If you do reply please email it also to mdovell@earthlink.net (I can get email for the most part)

I get the same notice regularly. And before I got a Modem. Like you I now loose line connections. Ntl blame BT; BT blame Ntl. I have not tried flushing out my system and re-installing yet. P3/450/300MRam/56K.
Changed from software Modem to hardware on advice from an "expert" No different.
Keep trying. PCs seem to be just poke and hope :-(
