My system works fine, except when closing or copying, or opening some files, not all, in windows explorer. Close, reboot, go away for a day, seems to work again.
Tried sfc, scandisk,no results..deleted pwl's still random. Just today, I was closing a readme from Si software Sandra and I got this error:
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module SHELL32.DLL at 0167:7fcb1946.

I have been to the "mountain of knowledge"(MS)without any solutions. Appreciate any input, short of "Format"

Wow the person describing their problems in win 98 second edition sounds exactly like my system and also the same w/ Internet Explorer. Unbelieveable, it sounds like I am describing these issues. I plan to try your resolution described here. Thanks to you both.

Thanks, I went to the KBA article and got all the info I needed to do this process, yet, now another phenomenon has occurred..In Windows Explorer, and opening up a folder "album"

Is there a pattern here? Computer still runs fine, email and internet access is not compromised..just this random "stuff" Any suggestions?

: Actually, I found an article on their site you might find interesting. KBA article #249064 describes your search registry value in Internet Explorer (program reporting the problem (IEXPLORE) is corrupt.

: You need to edit your registry to remove the key:

: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

: Do you know how to do this? I would recommend finding the nearest computer nerd to help you with this. Otherwise, here goes...

: Before attempting this, please understand that modifying your registry MAY cause your system to become inoperatable. Please take all precautions (backup) so that this does not become a disaster.

: Click Start, Run. Type 'regedit32'. Click File, then Search and type the key value. You should be directed right to the location of the key. Otherwise, you can manually scroll (much like your file system) down to the key value. Once you find it, delete the key (left pane and not right...this will delete all the values in the right pane).

: Hope this helps. Feel free to post back if you have more problems or this does not work.

Thanks, I do know how to do this, and have found the "key", and know how to backup my registry, YET, if it crashes, how do I restore or boot back up to get to import back the registry? I have never done this part before, but am sure if directed to knowlege base or if you can give me step by step, I will try your solution.
thanks again,
Millard

Actually, you really will not have to worry about this removal. Modifying the registry is more of a concern than deleting a key for IE, in this case. Once you have found the correct key, delete the 'folder' and reboot.

You have a very low risk of destroying your information.

Otherwise, I think Microsoft would do a much better job of descibing the procedure that I.
