Has anyone found a solution to Game Crash AMD/GeFo Post a Reply
From: TSWolf on 11/23/2001
I have the same problem. Ive been through everything.. Adding fans.. Trying to solve it with opening my comp.. Trying tons of drivers.. Formatting and reinstalling... 3 different versions of DirectX... And it still crashes in the Dos, DirectX games that I run.

Yes I have an AMD Processor... 1.4 Thunderbird.. And I have a A-Bit Siluro Video Card which has a Nvidia Geforce 2 MMX 400 Chipset... I have a K7AMA Motherboard by ECS.... Ive literally tried everything and I noticed a *TON* of people have this problem... Has someone directed one of those companies to this board to see how many friggin people have this problem? I can't play stuff.

The crash is similiar to everyone elses... Complete computer lockup and freeze with a high pitch noise.. I have tried so many things my head is about to explode.. This is obviously a bug in something that THEY did.. And THEY need to answer to it... Its not our fault anymore..

Someone please contact these people... I have a buncha tech support people Im talking to.. They keep suggesting the same stuff.. Test for heat.. Test this.. Test that.. Reinstall this.. Try that.. Hell on earth..

Wait, I got Pentium4 (2.26) and I got the same problem with my GeForce4 MX 440.
I've tried everything; all the BIOS and drivers are updated. What solves the problem for me is to underclock the CPU to 1.7Ghz, which lowers the performance of the system critically. Hope somebody can come up with a solution.

I had the same problem. Star Wars Galaxies would crash anywhere from 5minutes to intantly. Geforce4 MX 440, AMD 1.33GHz, Windows XP, plenty of RAM, 400W power supply, fan blowing into the box to keep it cool. What finally fixed the problem for me was upgrading the VIA drivers for my motherboard (Iwill KK266) which included an updated AGP driver.

That worked for me, i hope it's useful to anyone else.

Try a way larger power supply, don't go with cheap ones, this is most likely a power problem. Some AMD CPUs suck power.

Hi

I had the same problem, but found a patch in the AMD UK website. Go to http://www.amd.com/gb-uk/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_2336,00.html
an download the Windows® 2000/XP AGP Driver - Microsoft Digitally-Signed, Version 5.33 (Windows® 2000/XP only) - and install it.
All my lockup problems were fixed at once.

Check your power supply wattage. It's possible that you don't have enough juice to power all of your equipment.

:
: I have the same problem. Athlon Thunderbird 1.4Ghz GeForce 2MX and of course I have an ECS K7ama. I noticed that anything to do with fullscreen direct 3d/draw will lock up the system. OpenGL is fine in both Linux and windows, however there is only a DMA problem with tv cards visible in Linux. I gave up and got myself a MSI!
: :
: : I am having the same problem with a new Athlon 1800 XP and Geforce 3 TI500. I have tried what I think is everything to rid myself of this bug. I found that for games like UT, etc, I have to play in lower resolutions. BUT I bought this system so I COULD play at the higher resolutions. I have tried everything . My Bios settings are as low and un-agressive as possible. Even turned my RAM down (PC2100) so I clock at 200 mHz in lieu of 266. I'm really discouraged and hate to bring the system back after all this? I'm likely going to go P4 and spend the extra $. What mobo chipset are you running?

: : : seems like thousands of us have this problem. only consistent commonality i've found is the athlon (usually thunderbird) processor. any ideas given that?

: : : : Im mailing tons of tech support sites.. Asking for their test results.. Im going to see where this problem is coming from... Im forwarding them all to this board to see that Im not the only one with this problem.

Go into BIOS and try setting AGP to 2X (Disable 4X mode). Also GeForce's like running on a driving mode of EA (note: if this causes your computer to boot with no display - install a PCI card, and revert back to Automatic settings, then reinsert your AGP card)
Email me at riksman@southwest.com.au if you have success with this.
