Hpfvls14 error message Post a Reply
From: Chris on 12/01/2001
I've recently tested a HP 840c printer for a friend, which althought
it seemed OK on my PC has since proved faulty when reconnected to her
PC, printing gobbledegook at most attempts.
Since doing this whenever I use my own printer ( an HP 720c ) in
prints OK but then comes up with the error message: Hpfvls14 - An
error has occured in your programme. To keep working anyway click
'Ignore' ' etc.
Clicking 'Ignore' makes it go away, Clicking 'Close' brings up a
further message : ' Hpfvls14 has caused an error in HPFVLS14.EXE
Hpfvls14 will now close.'
Clicking 'OK' on this makes it dissapear.
None of this seems to have any detrimental effect on anything but
it's very annoying and I would be pleased if anyone could help me to
get rid of it.
I have uninstalled both HP driver programmes and then searched for the Hpfvls14 file in order to delete it but it's not shown as being present, so have reinstalled the correct driver programme for my 720c, but the error message still appears.
PC is an AMD 850 Duron , with 256mb Ram running
Win ME

By my computer the office cftmon.exe file caused the problem of the hpfvls14 error.

A Solution for this problem could be to remove one for one a programn from the start list (ctrl alt delete) and when you removed a programn, print a text to see if the problem is solved.

I am running Win98 2nd Ed. with a HP 722C printer and McAfee Antivirus, and have the Hpfvls14 error also. I have been able to trace it down to the McAfee virus program, and I was able to trace it down further to the mcvsshld.exe file that McAfee runs at startup. This is as far as I have been able to get with this problem, though maybe it might help.

720c running on a home network using the 10.3 drivers.

Do this on the host machine first.

Use Find | Find Files or Folders on the Start Menu. Type in HP* and look for the file C: HPCFG or HPFRCFG or HPWCFG - the one that's got CFG after it anyway. Double click on the exe file and look for the Bi-directional listing check box - disable it by removing the check mark. Click Ok and Ok out to a windows restart.

Once Windows has re-started make sure that you check the Printers Folder - by Start|Settings|Printers Right click on on the printer then Properties|Details|Spool settings button. If it is not make sure that the disable bi- directional support radio button is greyed out. Click OK or Click Apply if not greyed out. Look at the details tab click on Port Settings. If selectable ensure that the Check Port before printing is unchecked.

Having reconfigured the printer in this way. I then did the usual stuff to import the printer into my clients on the network.

I then deleted the old printers that were causing trouble in the client machines.

all is well

I have the HP 722C printerwith the last driver they released. In my case, the hpfvls14 comes up when running certain firewall programs. These occurred with Zone Alarm Pro 3.1.395 and Sygate Personal Firewall Pro 5.0 build 1150s.
Surprisingly, installing the Intellipoint 4.1 software for my USB Optical Mouse stopped the printer errors. Unfortunately, running the firewall and Intellipoint software causes mouse freezes. Even without 4.1, the firewall causes intermittent mouse delays.

I'm running Win98 SE. There is nothing I have found anywhere that pinpoints what software driver is causing the hpfvls14 error. Very frustrating.

In my case (Win98 SE and an HP 720C printer), I suddenly started getting HPFVLS14 error messages when printing from any program. Finally traced the conflict to an updated version (it was then the latest) of Microsoft's Intellipoint software downloaded a few months back. Disabled it on start-up using MSCONFIG and the HP error messages magically went away. The mouse has lost some non-essential features but otherwise functions fine. Good luck -- Patrick

I have a suspicion that Norton Antivirus 2002 may be causing my problem with the HPFVLS14 error.
Tried disabling bi-directional support but error still occurs.
Anyone got a solution.

My system started having this error after I installed Ontracks System Suite program was Ontracks System Suite 4.0. It was the firewall program. Hope this helps.

: This erroe started appearing on my system (WinME) after I install a HP all in one d135 (great unit). I install the undated version 10 drivers from HP but same thing. It doesn't have anything to do with by directional printing. I uninstalled the HP 720 drivers, uninstalled the 720 version 10 drivers, the d135 drivers, reinstalled the 720version 10 drivers and finally the d135 drivers (rebooting after each and every step and once at the end). this appears to have fixed my problem. Good look. It is obviously a broblem with the orginal 720 printer driver set and the TWAIN (scanner devices) the only real solution would be to teach the HP program that wrote the 720 printer driver set how to write code.
