: : I have a 266 Packard Bell *it was free lol* with Windows 98 and the person who had it before deleted some things that messed up the sound. It was working ok but I decided to do the system restore to see if it would restore all they messed up but I got an even bigger problem now. I did the system restore and it restarted afterwards. When it restarted it seemed like all was normal. I seen the windows screen and then the desktop showed up but then I received an error: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If this problem persists contact the program vendor. Details were: EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE at 015f:00401f31. : : I searched the microsoft database and found an article about it. It said to restart in command prompt only and type this: ren C:\windows\system\shdocvw.dll shdocvw.old I did this and it said: File not found- C:\windows\system\shdocvw.dll
: : Is there anything else I can do?? Why would it do this? Did I restore to the point before explorer was installed?? I don't have a cd or books to go with it and PB website sucks. Im pretty much illiterate when it comes to computers so any help would be much appreciated!!! Thanks
