I started System file checker to check my system because I just updated Internet Explorer to IE6. System file checker said to restore user.exe, so I did. After that I found that Display wouldn’t open from the control panel. So I restarted my computer to see if that would fix it but the computer booted to the start up menu with safe mode highlighted. When I pressed enter, the computer restarts and goes to scandisk and then back to the startup menu and back again to scandisk and back and forth. I did try step by step configuration, and got through to where I could type in the command prompt “Win [/D;[S}” and continued to come up with “Himem system is missing. Make sure file is in Windows directory”.
